Azure Front Door pricing
Azure Front Door has Standard ($35/profile/month) and Premium ($330/profile/month + WAF) tiers, with the same data rates on both: from $0.0825/GB out of North America and Europe edges, up to $0.14/GB entry pricing in the most expensive zones. It is Microsoft's CDN + global load balancer, competing with CloudFront and Cloudflare, and its per-GB rate to NA/EU users now sits slightly below direct Blob Storage egress.
How much does Azure Front Door cost?
Azure Front Door bills a base fee per profile plus outbound data transfer and requests. Standard is $35/profile/month; Premium is $330/profile/month and adds the WAF. Both tiers charge the same data rates, from $0.0825/GB out of North America and Europe edges for the first 10 TB. So 10 TB/month of cacheable NA/EU traffic on Standard is roughly $880/month before request fees ($35 base plus $845 transfer).
Request fees are $0.009 per 10,000 on Standard and $0.015 on Premium in Zone 1. Edge-to-origin transfer on cache misses is $0.02/GB from NA/EU. Data rates rise in more distant billing zones (Asia Pacific starts at $0.115/GB).

Outbound data transfer (Standard and Premium SKUs)
| Billing zone | First 10 TB | 10-50 TB | 50-150 TB | 150-500 TB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zone 1: North America | $0.0825 | $0.065 | $0.056 | $0.0141 |
| Zone 6: Europe | $0.0825 | $0.065 | $0.056 | $0.0141 |
| Zone 2: Asia Pacific, Japan | $0.115 | $0.0975 | $0.089 | $0.025 |
| Other zones (3, 4, 5, 7, 8) | $0.109-0.140 | $0.083-0.132 | $0.075-0.092 | $0.025-0.036 |
Premium data rates match Standard; request fees are higher on Premium ($0.015 vs $0.009 per 10,000 in Zone 1). Tiers continue past 500 TB: Zone 1 drops to $0.0069/GB (500 TB to 1 PB) and $0.0054/GB above 5 PB. Microsoft prices eight edge zones; zones 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 cover South America, Australia, India, Middle East / Africa, and Korea (rates shown as the range across them).
Front Door vs direct Azure Storage egress
Direct Azure Blob Storage egress from Zone 1 regions starts at $0.087/GB. Front Door egress from NA/EU edges starts at $0.0825/GB and falls much faster with volume: $0.0141/GB in the 150-500 TB band versus $0.05/GB direct. For cacheable content served to North America or Europe, Front Door is now cheaper per GB from the first GB. The costs to watch instead: the $35/month base fee, request fees, and $0.02/GB edge-to-origin transfer on cache misses.
Front Door wins when: you need built-in WAF + DDoS, you have many backend origins to route across, you want global anycast (single hostname routes to nearest healthy backend), or you serve users in zones where direct egress is expensive (Zone 3 direct is $0.181/GB, which makes Front Door competitive even at low volumes).
Per-GB rates to NA/EU users now sit just under CloudFront's ($0.0825 vs $0.085 for the first 10 TB), though CloudFront has no base fee and a 1 TB free tier. Cloudflare's flat-fee model still undercuts both for fully cacheable content. See CloudFront pricing.
Request fees and other charges

Frequently asked
Q.01How much does Azure Front Door cost?
›
Azure Front Door has a base fee of $35/profile/month on the Standard tier and $330/profile/month on Premium (which adds WAF). On top of the base fee you pay outbound data transfer, from $0.0825/GB out of North America and Europe edges for the first 10 TB, plus request fees of $0.009 per 10,000 requests on Standard ($0.015 on Premium) in Zone 1. So 10 TB/month of cacheable traffic to NA/EU on Standard is roughly $880/month before request fees ($35 base plus $845 data transfer). Data rates are identical on both tiers; the price difference is the base fee and included WAF.
Q.02What is the difference between Azure Front Door Standard and Premium pricing?
›
Both tiers charge the same per-GB data transfer rates (from $0.0825/GB in Zone 1). The differences are the base fee ($35/month Standard vs $330/month Premium), request fees ($0.009 vs $0.015 per 10,000 in Zone 1), and features: Premium bundles the Web Application Firewall, managed rule sets, bot management, and Private Link origin support at no extra per-request charge. Choose Standard for content delivery and global routing without WAF; choose Premium when you need the built-in security layer.
Q.03Is Azure Front Door cheaper than direct Blob Storage egress?
›
For cacheable content served to North America or Europe, yes on a per-GB basis. Front Door egress from NA/EU edges starts at $0.0825/GB versus $0.087/GB for direct Azure Blob Storage egress, and it falls much faster with volume ($0.0141/GB in the 150-500 TB band versus $0.05/GB direct). The costs that offset this are the $35/month base fee, request fees, and $0.02/GB edge-to-origin transfer charged on cache misses. Front Door only wins net if enough of your traffic is cacheable to amortise the base fee and request charges.
Q.04Does Azure Front Door charge extra for the WAF?
›
No separate per-policy or per-request WAF charge on Premium: the Web Application Firewall, managed rule sets, custom rules, and bot management are included in the $330/profile/month Premium base fee. The Standard tier ($35/month) does not include WAF. So the practical cost of adding WAF via Front Door is the $295/month step up from Standard to Premium, plus the higher Premium request fee ($0.015 vs $0.009 per 10,000 in Zone 1).
Q.05How does Azure Front Door compare with CloudFront on price?
›
Front Door's per-GB rate to NA/EU users ($0.0825/GB for the first 10 TB) sits just under CloudFront's ($0.085/GB first 10 TB), but CloudFront has no monthly base fee and includes a 1 TB free tier, while Front Door Standard carries a $35/month base fee and no free egress allowance. For low-volume or bursty workloads CloudFront is usually cheaper because of the free tier and no base fee; at sustained high volume the two are close. Cloudflare's flat-fee model still undercuts both for fully cacheable content.
