Linode transfer pricing: pooled bundles, then half a cent a gigabyte
Akamai Cloud, which Linode became, bundles monthly transfer with every plan, from about 1 TB on small instances up to 20 TB, pooled across the account. Egress past the pool bills at $0.005 per GB in North America core regions, five dollars a terabyte, the second-cheapest flat overage we track after Hetzner. Distributed regions run at $0.01 per GB. How much transfer is included with a Linode plan?
It depends on the plan: Akamai's pricing page describes bundled transfer that scales from 0 TB up to 20 TB per month, and allowances pool across the services on an account. A small instance carries about 1 TB; larger dedicated plans carry up to 20 TB. Check your plan's line on the pricing page for the exact figure.
What does Linode charge for egress above the bundled transfer?
US$0.005 per GB in North America core regions, which is $5 per TB. Distributed regions are published at $0.01 per GB. The rate is flat; there is no volume tier table.
What does 10 TB of egress overage cost on Linode?
10 TB past your pooled bundle, in a North America core region, is 10,000 GB at $0.005: $50. The same overage on Vultr costs $100, on Hetzner about $12, and on AWS's published tiers roughly $900. The bundled-transfer clouds cluster at single-digit dollars per TB; the hyperscalers do not.
Is Linode's transfer pool shared across services?
Yes. The bundled allowances pool across an account's services in the same region class, so one egress-heavy instance can spend the transfer bundled with quieter ones before any overage is billed.
