Vultr bandwidth: a 2 TB free pool, then a flat cent a gigabyte
Vultr's model is simple to state: every account carries 2 TB of free outbound transfer a month, pooled globally across instances, on top of whatever transfer each plan allocates. Ingress is free. Past the quota, bandwidth bills at a flat $0.01 per GB, ten dollars a terabyte, with no tier table. This page gives the published numbers, the worked costs, and where Vultr lands against the other bundled-transfer clouds.
The published numbers
| Item | Published figure | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Free monthly pool | 2 TB outbound | “Two terabytes (2 TB) of free outbound data transfer every month”, pooled account-wide, on top of per-plan allocations. |
| Ingress | Free | Inbound transfer is not billed. |
| Bandwidth overage | $0.01 / GB | “Bandwidth usage exceeding your plan's allocated quota is billed at an overage rate of $0.01 per GB.” Flat; no volume tiers. |

What a month of egress costs
| Monthly egress | Over the 2 TB pool | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 2 TB | 0 GB | $0 |
| 10 TB | 8,000 GB | $80 |
| 50 TB | 48,000 GB | $480 |
| 100 TB | 98,000 GB | $980 |
Our arithmetic from the published rate, treating a TB as 1,000 GB (Vultr quotes per GB) and counting only the account-wide free pool. Plan-attached allocations are spent first in practice, so these are ceilings, not floors. The same 10 TB runs to $913 on AWS's published tiers; the bundled-transfer clouds are a different world from the hyperscaler meters.
Against the other bundled-transfer clouds
| Provider | Included | Overage |
|---|---|---|
| Vultr | 2 TB free pool + plan allocations | $0.01 / GB |
| Akamai Cloud (Linode) | 1 to 20 TB bundled per plan, pooled | $0.005 / GB (NA) |
| Hetzner | 1 TB (US) to 20 TB (EU) per server | $0.0012 / GB |
| DigitalOcean Spaces | 1,024 GiB pooled (object storage) | $0.01 / GiB |
Same shape, very different slopes: at scale, Hetzner's overage is roughly an eighth of Vultr's and Linode's half of it. Vultr's distinguishing published feature is the account-wide pooling of the free 2 TB plus free ingress.

How much free bandwidth does Vultr include?
Every Vultr account gets 2 TB of free outbound data transfer each month, pooled across instances and regions, in addition to the transfer allocated with each plan. Ingress is free. The 2 TB pool came with Vultr's bandwidth pricing reduction announcement.
What is Vultr's bandwidth overage rate?
From Vultr's billing documentation: bandwidth usage exceeding your plan's allocated quota is billed at an overage rate of $0.01 per GB, which is $10 per TB. There is no published volume tiering; the rate is flat.
What does 10 TB of egress cost on Vultr?
Counting only the account-wide 2 TB free pool: 8 TB of overage at $0.01 per GB is $80 for the month. Your actual bill can be lower because plan-attached transfer allocations are spent before overage starts; the $80 is the ceiling for an account relying on the free pool alone.
How does Vultr bandwidth pricing compare with Linode and Hetzner?
All three bundle transfer and charge a flat overage, but the rates differ a lot: Vultr $0.01 per GB, Akamai Cloud (Linode) $0.005 per GB in North America, Hetzner about $0.0012 per GB ($1.20 per TB). For an egress-heavy workload, Hetzner's overage is roughly an eighth of Vultr's.
